Dinner Deals 2-24 to 3-2

Here are the grocery deals for the week:

And here are 5 recipes that go along with those meals.  Final costs are all based on dinner for 4 – you may need to adjust your recipes accordingly.  The recipes also make use of leftovers, incorporating them into the next night’s meal when possible so that nothing gets wasted.

Tacos

  • 1lb ground beef @ Price Chopper – $1.68 or 1lb ground turkey @ HyVee – $2.50
    or use refried beans @ HyVee – $.66 for a vegetarian alternative
  • Lettuce @ Hen House – $.69
  • Shredded cheese @ Price Chopper – $.99
  • Tortillas @ HyVee – $.99
  • Roma tomatoes @ HyVee – $.99/lb
  • Onion @ HyVee – $.59/lb
  • Sour Cream @ Apple Market – $.50
  • FINAL COST:  $7.50 (depending on ingredients)

Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Leftover taco meat from the night before goes really well with spaghetti.  The flavors blend well, and it ads a bit of a kick!

  • Barilla pasta @ Hen House – $.48
  • Bertolli pasta sauce @ Hen House – $1.23 or Hunt’s spaghetti sauce @ Apple Market $.66
  • Dole premium salads @ HyVee – $.24
  • Wishbone salad dressing @ Hen House – $.03
  • 1lb ground beef @ Price Chopper – $1.68 or 1lb ground turkey @ HyVee – $2.50
  • FINAL COST: $3 to $4.50 depending on ingredients

Breakfast Burritos

Use the leftover taco toppings in your burritos.

  • Eggs @ Price Chopper – $.88
  • Shredded cheese @ Price Chopper – $.99
  • Tortillas @ HyVee – $.99
  • Onion @ HyVee – $.59
  • Tomatoes @ HyVee – $.99/lb
  • Optional: Bacon @ Hen House – $2.29
  • FINAL COST: $5 if you use the leftovers from Taco night, a bit higher if you don’t.

Roasted Chicken and Baked Potatoes

  • Split chicken breasts @ Apple Market $.89/lb or @ Hen House $1.29/lb (need one for each person)
  • Baking Potatoes @ Hen House $.25/lb (grab 4)
  • Salad @ HyVee – $.24
  • FINAL COST: $4 or less

Chicken Salad Sandwiches
*Use the leftover chicken from Roasted Chicken the night before.

  • Red grapes @ Price Chopper $.97/lb
  • Hellman’s Mayo @ Hen House – $1.48
  • Whole wheat bread @ Apple Market $1
  • FINAL COST: $3.50 or less

SHOPPING LISTS

Apple Market:

  • Daisy sour cream – $.50
  • Whole wheat bread – $1
  • Split chicken breasts – 4lbs @ $.89/lb – $3.56
  • (3) Hunt’s spaghetti sauce – use the $1/3 coupon – $2 for 3 cans

TOTAL: $7.06 + tax

HyVee:

  • (2) 1.2lb packages ground turkey – $4.99
  • (2) Dole Premium salad blends – use 2 $1 coupons from Apple Market – $.48
  • (2) packs tortillas – $1.98
  • 1 lb tomatoes – $.99
  • 1 lb onion – $.59
  • Refried beans for tacos – $.66

TOTAL: $9.69

Hen House:

  • 4 large baking potatoes – $.50
  • Iceberg lettuce – $.69
  • (2) packages of Barilla pasta – $.98 each, use $1/2 coupon – $.96
  • Bertolli pasta sauce (if you didn’t get the Hunt’s) – $1.23
  • Wishbone salad dressing – $.03!
  • Hellman’s Mayo – $1.48
  • Jimmy Dean bacon – $2.29

FINAL COST: $7.18

Price Chopper:

  • (2) Eggs @ $.88/doz – $1.76
  • (3) Shredded cheese @ $.99 each (stock up price) – $2.97
  • Ground Beef – 2lbs @ 1.68/lb – $3.36
  • Red grapes -2lbs @ $.97/lb – $1.94

TOTAL COST: $10.03

If you bought all these things, your total would be $33.93.  If you wanted to go without the ground beef/turkey & substitute in the beans instead, your total would be more like $25.  Some you needed to buy duplicates of in order to get the lower sale price (pasta, salad, spaghetti sauce), so these things can be on-hand for a quick dinner at another time.  Average cost is $1.40 per person per meal for these 5 meals.
